What's Our Boss's Name?
A Kingdom Hearts fanfic written by Christina E Lupin
Summary: What if Roxas really did remember everything from when he was a part of the Organization? Would things change or be the same?
AN: Okay, let's see how far this story goes, yeah? Hopefully it becomes complete. And I do not own Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Disney, etc. I am just a penniless writer who enjoys borrowing characters and tweaking them to her liking.
Chapter One
"We're best friends, right?" Roxas asked, staring at Axel rather than the Dusks surrounding the blonde.
Despite remembering everything that had happened to him almost a year ago, he would rather stay far away from the Organization as possible. They were the ones who lied to him, using him for their own gain.
Axel scratched the back of his neck, a habit that nearly made Roxas smile. "Sure, but I'm not getting turned into a Dusk for.... wait a sec." He stopped his movements and his eyes widened. Roxas dared to admit that he saw hope sparkle in those beautiful green eyes. "You remember now?"
"Y-yeah," the blonde admitted, nervously glancing at the Dusks. Darn Dusks made him edgy, especially when he found one leaning over him one morning when he was with the Organization.
"Great! But we gotta check." Axel's eyes went blank as he searched his mind. "What's our boss's name?"
Roxas wanted to roll his eyes. He remembered Axel asking him that question when the blonde was only 7 days old. Such a silly question. "Xemnas, but he's not...."
Without warning, the Dusks were called off and Roxas was immediately embraced. The redhead's arms squeezed him tight and his face buried itself in the blonde's spiky hair.
"It is you," Axel murmured. "It really is you. I can't believe it. After all this time...."
"Axe... breathe," Roxas choked.
"Right, right." The redheaded Nobody released him and Roxas gulped in some breaths. "Wait until everyone hears this...."
"No."
Axel raised an eyebrow. "No?"
Roxas lifted his chin a little in defiance. "I'm not going back, Axel."
"Wha? Why not?"
"You know why." Roxas turned away from his best friend, fists clenched at his side. "I cannot side with a group that would only continue to lie to me and use me like I'm some sort of puppet. Besides, I know they are after me now. I left them and they are upset."
"But if you just explained...."
The blonde sighed. Hearing Axel literally pleading with him made his non-existent heart ache. "I know the punishment for leaving against orders, Axel. They'll eliminate me. Besides, they have someone else to rely on. Sora."
"Wherever the guy is," the redhead mumbled. "We've checked everywhere and he's nowhere to be found."
"But once you find him, that'll be it. I'll be a goner."
Roxas felt Axel place a hand on his shoulder. The large palm covered his shoulder and long skinny fingers slid past his collarbone. "I'm sure we can work something out."
Before Roxas could answer, a large gust of wind, reminding the blonde of what happened at the Struggle tournament, buffeted them. As Axel was pushed back, Roxas heard a voice in his head, telling him to head to the mansion.
"I'm sick of his never-ending games," the blonde heard his friend hiss. With a flash, Axel summoned his chakrams. "C'mon Roxas. We've no time to lose."
"I told you I'm not going."
Roxas watched as his friend's face turned to stone, emotionless. It sent a shiver up his spine. "I was given orders to take you, willingly or not. If you are going to put up a fight..." He began twirling his chakrams.
The blonde Nobody let out a sigh and summoned his Keyblades, Oathkeeper and Oblivion. "I don't want to do this, Axel, but I'm not going back."
"So be it." Axel got ready to throw his chakrams, pulling his left arm across his chest so one chakram was by his ear. Before Roxas could move his Keyblades to block the attack, Axel was frozen in place.
"To the mansion, NOW! the voice screamed in his head.
Roxas dropped his weapons and held his head. Once the pain passed, he pivoted and ran away from the Usual Spot, but nowhere near the mansion either. He wanted to live his own life, damn it.
-----------------
"What do you mean, he got away?"
Axel leaned back in his seat. "Exactly what I said, Superior. I was being held by some unseen force, more than likely the man behind the entire illusion of the town."
Xemnas, the Superior and leader of Organization XIII, rested his cheek against a fist. "We'll have to send someone else to retrieve Number XIII, someone with a little more expertise in chasing down others." He turned his liquid amber eyes to Xaldin. "You know what to do."
The dread-locked Nobody inclined his head and vanished without a word. Axel felt a weird throbbing sensation in his chest, right where his heart would be, if he had one. He knew the emotion he was feeling was fear, for he had experienced it before.
"What are you planning to do to him, once he returns?" Demyx asked, the mullet-haired Nobody sprawled on his seat.
"That is classified," Xemnas spoke. "You are all dissmissed and shall return to your missions immediately." He vanished from his seat, as did many other Nobodies. Except for Axel and Demyx.
"I don't know what to do," Axel said out loud, his voice echoing through the empty hall.
"Roxas is a strong boy," the water Nobody said, lazily strumming his Sitar that he summoned. "He can escape Xaldin." He looked up from his instrument and Axel could see curiosity shining in the aqua-colored eyes. "Since when were you so worried about Roxy?"
Since he became my best friend, a voice murmured inside Axel's mind.

Whew. So, next chapter will have Roxas evading the dreaded Xaldin. And will Axel come to the blonde's rescue?
